The Early Psychosis and Intervention Program provides early identification, assessment and treatment for individuals between the ages of 14 and 35 residing in Windsor-Essex County who are experiencing first episode psychosis. The focus of this program is upon minimizing the impact of disruption to a young person’s functioning and to enhance psychological and social development. Supports are focused upon maintaining or returning to educational, vocational and social activities. Support and education is provided to both the individuals who experience psychosis and to their families so as to assist in the recovery of first episode psychosis.
The team provides:
Comprehensive assessment and referral to community resources, treatment, psycho-social support, family involvement and family education, facilitating access and early identification, public education, medication support, assistance with symptom and behaviour management, skill development, person centered planning, and advocacy.

Griefworks is a community-based program designed to address loss experienced by children and adolescents up to 18 years of age.
Services include:

Activity-based therapy for children and youth.
Structured therapy for individuals experiencing traumatic and/or complicated grief.
Therapeutic groups for similarly aged children who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Caregiver support and education.
Community consultation with professionals involved in supporting the child.

Children First in Essex County

Children First provides individualized services to families with children from birth to 6 years of age who are at risk for or who are experiencing developmental or mental health challenges. We provide services to families in their homes, child care centres, other early childhood settings or at the agency. We partner with parents and caregivers to develop a plan together based on the strengths and needs of the family.

Services are voluntary and at no cost to the family.


Family Respite Services

Family Respite Services works in partnership with families who have children with disabilities. We coordinate support and provide short breaks that strengthen families and contribute to children having meaningful lives in their community.

Our vision is to have a community where families are strong and all children belong.

Our mandate is to support children from infancy to age 18 who have developmental disabilities or mental health challenges. Respite for children with mental health challenges is provided to children and youth who are actively receiving support/treatment from a children's mental health centre.

We offer a variety of programs and services that are flexible and designed to meet the individual needs of each child and family. We believe that families are our Partners in developing a treatment plan that responds to the needs of your child/youth.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare - Community Withdrawal Management Services (Youth)

HDGH's Community Withdrawal Management Services (CWMS) supports individuals aged 12 years and older, in Windsor-Essex who wish to withdraw from alcohol or substances in a safe, supportive setting. An individualized review of the potential for withdrawal complications will determine the safest care setting.

With guidance from a team of Chemical Dependency Counsellors, and Acudetox-Certified staff, services are available for Windsor-Essex, including one part-time staff member based in Leamington. Services include:

Pre-Withdrawal Planning: Case coordination, navigation with local outpatient addiction clinics, also known as Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine (RAAM) or primary care medication-assisted treatment support, individualized recovery plan of care, motivational interviewing, and naloxone training/distribution.

Active Withdrawal Monitoring: Ongoing evaluation and adjustment of care plans based on individual needs.

Stabilization & Aftercare: Streamlined access to ongoing treatment and recovery services.

Referrals can be made by anyone concerned for an individual’s well-being, however participation is voluntary. A referral form is available on our website.

Founded in 1929, Maryvale is a mental health treatment centre in Windsor Ontario, where adolescents experiencing serious emotional, psychological and mental distress can receive therapeutic assistance. Our clinical experts provide multi-disciplinary treatment, from psychologists, child psychiatrists, social workers, youth care workers, special education teachers, and nurse practitioners. Our programs and services are aimed at meeting a youth at which ever point they might find themselves in their mental health journey.

OUTPATIENT COUNSELING - Youth (ages 13-18) experiencing mild to severe mental health concerns and moderate to severe concurrent addictions issues are referred by a number of sources. Services and supports include individual, group and family therapy utilizing a variety of evidenced based therapeutic modalities. Currently, these services are offered in person and at five satellite office locations including Windsor (Maryvale Campus), Leamington, Essex, Belle River and LaSalle.

DAY TREATMENT SCHOOL - Combines school and treatment for adolescents (ages 13-17) who are experiencing significant or persistent problems in their community school and may also be experiencing conflict in their families and/or the community. Within this program, there are specialty classrooms to best support individual student needs. This on-campus school operates in conjunction with the Greater Essex County District School Board.

ACUTE CARE MENTAL HEALTH HOSPITAL - Provides services for children under the age of 16 from Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent who are experiencing significant mental health difficulties. This program provides timely assessments, stabilization and referral to community services for ongoing assistance.

The Eating Disorder Counselling program is located at the weCHC- Teen Health location. This program provides eating disorder counselling and support to youth ages 12-24 and their families. The program utilizes CBT-E and Family Based Therapy which are evidence informed best practices to eating disorder treatment. The program includes Interdisciplinary collaboration with a medical team, advocacy, education, body psychoeducation, meal time support, and creating resources to help families feel supported

Services are available to youth residing in Windsor-Essex and are offered in person in Windsor, by phone, or through a secure video platform.

How to Access:

To access this program, youth must have an Eating Disorder diagnosed by a medical professional, and youth be be referred by a medical professional.
If youth are looking to be assessed, and are unable to access primary care, contact weCHC at 519-962-2284 and speak with the reception team at our Teen Health location to request a medical Eating Disorder assessment.


Windsor Essex Community Health Centre- General Counselling Program

The Windsor Essex Community Health Centre provides short-term mental health counselling for individuals ages 12+ who experience mild to moderate mental health issues. Our Teen Health locations offers counselling services specifically for youth ages 12-24.

The general counselling program involves using therapeutic, evidence-informed best practices based on individual client goals and needs. The service includes an initial assessment (intake) and the provision of treatment recommendations. Services are accessible to individuals who reside in Windsor-Essex. Individuals have the option of engaging in services in person at either our Windsor or Leamington locations, by phone, or through a secure video platform.

The program supports a wide range of treatment goals including, but not limited to, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, relationship stressors, school issues, family dynamic stressors, self-injury, identify, coping, phobias, and trauma. The individuals we service are looking to improve their mental and emotional health and are able to engage meaningfully in counselling services.

At times, treatment groups are offered in addition to individual therapy depending on need.

Windsor Essex Community Health Centre- Youth Addictions Counselling

The Youth Addiction Program is located at the weCHC- Teen Health location. This program provides counselling to youth ages 12-17 who are experiencing addiction, have experienced addiction in the past, or who have been impacted by a loved one’s addiction. The addictions supported by the program include alcohol, drug, smoking/vaping, and behavioural addictions such as social media and video gaming.

The program focuses on supporting youth and their families with the challenges associated with change and recovery, enhancing skills to manage addictive behaviours and support relapse prevention, and providing emotional support stemming from the social consequence of addiction for those affected by a loved one’s addiction.

Services are available to youth residing in Windsor-Essex and are offered in person in Windsor, by phone, or through a secure video platform.

The Youth Wellness Hub Windsor-Essex offers free services to youth ages 12 to 25 without a wait list or referral. This one-stop-shop model of care allows for a multitude of services all under one roof in a youth friendly space. When a youth or family member enters the building, they will be greeted by a friendly face. The Intake Clerk will help guide the way to the proper services and people to ensure a smooth and low stress experience.
